A good week ending August

Every night, as I go to sleep, I thank God for the wonderfull day he blessed me with. I have had a great week! Our homeschool rhythm was much better and Nathan's attitude was much more co-operative. I took the kids on a field trip to day as part of their Florida Studies and then we went thrift store shopping and took the day off from school!

HOMECHOOLING

Okay, last week was the first official week of school. Despite the fact that we had allready eased into school weeks before, it was a shock to jump full in. Nathan really balked and his attitude was horrible. I cried for help to my homeschool support group and they all rallied around with wonderful suggestions and been there stories. I soul searched and discovered that I had lost sight of why we were homeschooling and I had set this year up to be so very much like a brick and mortar school. BIG mistake. Once I adjusted my approach and listened to how my son wanted to learn, we had some harmony. Then we tried the time management technique for Nathan. That is helping him take on his bookwork that he hates so much. He is beginning to realize how long it REALLY takes to do his work, which is so much shorter than what he THOUGHT it would take. Result.. less whining and dragging and a happier child, who is feels empowered in his education. WHEW!! Good thing too, that little yellow school bus was looking really good to both myself AND his big brother. ( Really bad, when the big brother is looking for that bus to shove his brother on )

So, it has been a blessed week and I look forward to enjoying the long weekend with my family.
